B.Sc (Hons) - Microbiology
The B.Sc. Microbiology (Hons.) is a four-year undergraduate program for students fascinated by the microscopic world and how microorganisms affect health, food, agriculture, industry and the environment. You build strong foundations in cell biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, immunology and bioinformatics while developing practical laboratory skill. Advanced areas such as microbial genomics, molecular diagnostics, virology, immuno-technology and microbial biotechnology show where the field is heading, and hands-on laboratory work, internships, projects and a full-year research dissertation teach you to investigate real scientific questions.
Microbiology opens career opportunities across pharmaceuticals, healthcare, diagnostics, food and beverage, agriculture, environmental services and research. You can explore roles in quality control, laboratory operations, clinical microbiology, research, food safety, regulatory support and biotechnology. Emerging areas such as antimicrobial resistance, microbial genomics, molecular diagnostics, microbiome studies and bioinformatics are creating new directions for skilled professionals.
